Campion College is located at 105 Hope Road in St.Andrew, Jamaica. It was founded by the the Jesuit order of the Roman Catholic Church in 1960 and was a private All-Boys institution until 1976 when it became public funded and co-educational.
The motto is “Fortes in Fide Et Opere” which translates “Steadfast In Faith and Work.”
Campion participated in the Jamaica independent schools competitions initially and transitioned to the public Inter-secondary School Association competitions in the late 1970’s. This academic power-house despite hiring iconic coaches such as former national coach Jeffrey Maxwell has not matched its dominance in the private school competitions and has yet to taste success in the Manning Cup. Campion’s best performances in the Manning Cup were back-to-back semifinal round appearances in the 1989-90 and 1990-91 school years.
Campion has fared much better in junior football and have been second in the Under 13 knock-out Harding Cup in 1983 and Under-13 Pepsi Champions in 1986. Campion has lifted Colts Titles in 1984 when it was an Under 15 competition and Corporate Area Under-16 titles in 1987, 1988 and 2022. The 1988 Colts team included the likes of Huey Ferguson, Kimani Robinson, captain Gregory Aiken, Nigel Taylor, Kevin McMorris, Paul Rodgers and Orett “Bambino” Hart and remains the only Campion team to win an All-Island ISSA Championship (Colts-1988).
Many Campionites have donned the national colours. At the senior level there has been Rennie Phillips and arguably the greatest ever to wear the black, green and gold – Alan “Skill” Cole.
Youth players are too many to mention but include Huey Ferguson,Solomon Gayle, Nigel Taylor, Jason Craig-Watson, Leighton Jackson, Kurt Smith, five-time All Manning Selectee Andrew Chang, Alex Blake, Kai Myles, Nicholas McMorris, Gregory Aiken, Llewlyn Meggs, Ricardo Powell, Josef Powell and 2024 under 15 invitee Jaeden Morgan.
Campionites that played pivotal roles in Collegiate winning teams include Chris Dehring(West Virginia Weslyan - NAIA in 1984) and Ranford Champagnie (St John’s University -NCAA Division 1 1996).
Huey Ferguson has been Campion’s most outstanding NCAA Division I player to date and is in the Big East Hall Of Fame after setting school records in both goals and points (goals (2) and assists (1)) at St. John’s University.
