Wolmers’ Boys

Wolmers Boys High School was founded in 1729 but was established in 1736 and is regarded as the oldest high school in Jamaica. As it relates to Manning Cup history we won over seven times, our first in 1923 and our latest one in 1994. Overall we will be remembered for being triple champions in 1971 led by Richard Davey. Other notable players mentioned in the last thirty years include Hylon Dayes, Michael Fray, Paul Young, Luton Shelton and Ricardo “Bibi” Gardener.

Wolmers’ Boys

Paul Young represented Wolmers’ (Boys) in the Manning Cup competition from 1984-1988 and served as the captain in 1986. Paul had the honour of captaining the 1986 All-Manning team and also represented the Jamaica All-Schools (Juvenile) team. He went on to play for Syracuse University from 1989- 1992, earning All-American honors in 1992.

Professionally, Paul played for Charleston Battery from 1993 – 1995, and 1998 (USL) and also for the Columbus Crew (MLS) in 1996. He enjoyed stints with Hazard/Portmore United in 1994 and 2002/03, when they were National Premier League (NPL) champions. Paul Young earned 86 National caps and is one of the most prolific goal scorers to represent Jamaica, evidenced by the 28 goals he scored including 3 goals in World Cup qualifying games.
